Mentor Kellie Hatcher

In 2009 Kellie Hatcher started a photography business, capturing imperfect lives and moments through her own lens. Since then her business has grown and flourished as she has had the blessing to photograph the beautifully imperfect for many other families.

Kellie believes the most important moments to capture are the real ones life offers daily and she guides her students in how to do the same. In her class Light + Life she covers all aspects of light and how to capture it most beautifully without interrupting the moments unfolding around the camera. This isn't easy to do, and is a learned practice that she walks her students through step by step.

We hear so many students say that they would like to go back to that time they had with Kellie in class or that they would like to learn from her even if they have already mastered using natural light. This two-week mentoring session will give DEFINE alumni an opportunity to connect with this incredible teacher for the first time or delve deeper into learning about light, running a photography business, shooting sessions or anything else they would like to focus on with Kellie.

While our interactive courses revolve around a focused syllabus, mentoring sessions give students direct access to Kellie to pick her brain, learn from her wealth of knowledge, and have her critique their work. Students who have taken Light + Life know how valuable Kellie's critiques of their work are, and these sessions are an opportunity to have her evaluate students' new work, in order to help them continue to move forward and grow. And as anyone who has spent time with Kellie knows, every moment with her is inspiring!

Each two-week Group Mentoring and Critique Session will be limited to a group of 5-10 DEFINE alumni who will learn together on the forum and engage in interactive opportunities like Google chats and phone calls. It’s community and education on your own terms! Please note: Group Mentoring and Critique Sessions are only open to DEFINE alumni. If you’re new here, check out the full lineup of our interactive courses.

The Schedule

This two-week group mentoring and critique session will take place in a private online forum. (Registered students will receive instructions on how to access the forum a few days before the session begins.)

On the first Monday of the session, Kellie will email her students to welcome them to class and post an introduction in the forum. She will be available for two weeks to answer questions and facilitate discussions in the forum.

Along with being available to answer questions, give guidance, critique photos and share inspiration, Kellie will also facilitate interactive opportunities such as Google chats and/or phone calls.

This session will include 5-10 students and the group interaction and critique adds to the richness of the mentoring experience. DEFINE is a community and we love how our students come together to support and encourage each other.

The beauty of this session and every other class at DEFINE is that you can read, practice, and participate throughout the week whenever it is convenient for you- from any timezone, anywhere you have Internet access, at any time of day.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email
