It feels like everyone is on Instagram and everyone uses it differently. In a sea of algorithms, curated feeds, and strategies to gain followers, it's easy to lose track of why you're using Instagram in the first place.

So… why are you? Do you know?

Before you can have a thriving social media presence, you have to know who you are and what Instagram means for you. Kristin Rogers is a passionate artist who nurtures and inspires a large community of creatives, largely through her Instagram account. She has attracted thousands of followers over the last several years through her simple, beautiful imagery and sharing from her heart.

Instead of copying those you admire, Kristin will help you figure out how to make Instagram fit your vision and heart. She'll take you through the way she sees and uses Instagram herself to help you find your own unique reasons and online path.

This four week course will walk you through some basic iPhoneography techniques, and then delve into identifying your style and mindset, the first step in planning how you want to use Instagram while staying true to yourself. You'll learn how to create real connections in an online world and stay true to yourself to inspire organic growth.

Syllabus

WEEK ONE: iPhoneography – First things first. Learn how to capture images in your phone and how light, apps, and editing techniques can strengthen your photos.

WEEK TWO: Aesthetics – Your Instagram style and vibe, from the flow of your feed to capturing the beauty that’s naturally in your life and your moments.

WEEK THREE: Engagement – Connecting with people and opportunity on Instagram, including comments, photo descriptions, selfies, algorithms, vulnerability, etc.

WEEK FOUR: Stay You – How to stay true to yourself in your content, priorities, and values while on a social platform with so many opinions and trends.

The Schedule

All participation and interaction for this class will take place in a private online forum. (Registered students will receive instructions on how to access the forum a few days before class begins.)

On the first Monday of class, Kristin will share Lesson 1 in the forum and e-mail it to every student. She will be available during the week to answer questions and facilitate discussions in the forum as you read and work through your lessons.

Homework will be due on Sunday and personal critiques will take place the following Mondays. Each week will follow the same pattern.

The beauty of this class and every other class at DEFINE is that you can read, practice, and participate throughout the week whenever it is convenient for you- from any timezone, anywhere you have Internet access, at any time of day. Most students spend 3-5 hours per week “in class.”

If you have any questions, please feel free to email info@thedefineschool.com.

Is this class for you?

If you want to learn how to find your Instagram style and mindset and how to use this social media platform to reach your goals while staying true to yourself, you’ve come to the right place! If you are simply looking for a class on how to gain the most followers on Instagram, this is class is NOT for you. Kristin will teach how she sees and uses Instagram – which has naturally brought her over 75k followers and awesome opportunities – but gaining followers is not the driving force of this class.

I have learned some great things in the class and honestly, I think it was worth every bit that I paid for it and applaud you for the substance of the content as well as the heart that you put into it. It truly is helping me Instagram with heart. THANK YOU!!

Kristin, Thank you so much for putting this course together, it’s been so very timely for me! I really loved the class, especially the videos for homework critique. That made it more personal. Oh, and how do you keep up with all of those comments? I think there were almost 250 on that first post you did! …. I was truly impressed to see you actually respond to people!

The four weeks went by so quickly. I’ve had fun and learn a lot. My mind is still processing all that we’ve discussed. It’s a work in progress type of thing. Thanks Kristin for all the feedback and insightful ideas!

Thanks for a great class, Kristin. It was a joy to get to know your heart a little more and the class has really made me think about how I want to manage IG (and really all social media as a whole) going forward. One thing that this class has really given me is the freedom to leave my professional camera at home and has challenged me to capture the fleeting moments in a simple, easy way through my phone.

Going through these weeks with the class and looking at all the conversations between everyone, you really making us dig deep inside, and ‘being true to yourself’ in Instagram is first and foremost. As a matter of fact, it should go through all aspects of your life.

I appreciate how this lesson really helped me to dig deeper. It is opening the door for me to think more about my voice as a person. Thanks Kristin!

Learning new ways to edit my photos in your lessons is definitely revolutionary to me. I found a cool filter that I like on VSCO and I’m getting the hang of changing it how I like it. I’m very excited to keep going and refining my editing process. I also love knowing how important light is and watching for those moments. Having continuity and negative space in my feed is important and I will continue to work on it. Negative space is something I didn’t really think about. I know it’s an important part of art composition So I see how it’s important to my feed. I plan on engaging more with comments and refining my vulnerable posts to fit me. Lesson 4 has so many amazing truths about being who you are. I feel like I’ll be rereading it often to check myself. I learned a lot from these lessons and my IG experience will never be the same. I’m so excited to continue to work on the things I learned! Thank you so much, Kristin!!
